Some people have a big meal on New Year’s Eve.  We have our big meal on New Year’s Day… always a prime rib roast, potatoes and veg.

New Year’s Eve for us is a day of celebration and re-cap of our year past, and the year ahead.  For that.. we love munchies.  It varies from year to year.  But often includes seafood, somehow an easy, light, celebratory meal.  This year we got some beautiful Bluepoint oysters, beef carpaccio with homemade aioli, house made roasted garlic hummus and pitas, and these yummy light tempura shrimp.

I tried a Nobu recipe for the tempura batter… 1 egg yolk, 2/3 c. flour, 7 oz. ice cold water.  The batter was very thin, and made for a super light batter.  I added a bit of garlic salt and seasonings (Adobo), then threw in some sliced jalapeño and cilantro at the end.  I served it with a mix of mayo & sriracha sauce for a dipping sauce.  It was great.  I’m already looking forward to having it again.
